Seminar outline for HST115: The 'Disenchantment' of Early Modern Europe c. 1570-1770, produced for the 2007 session at the Department of History, University of Sheffield. Includes an exercise on the story of the cat massacre by Nicholas Contat (1730s). In this exercise students are asked to examine the highlighted parts of the story. Students are separated into two groups and each given one side of the debate from texts by John Webster and Seth Ward(for or against astrology). They are then asked to analyse the extracts for context and point of view and use the question sheet as a rough guide.
