Trying to Understand the Quran - Arabic:shilgnE

This is a Wordle visualisation of the Quran, the holy book of Islam. Moslems believe the Quran was recited to Mohammed in Arabic, so only the original Classical Arabic gives a true understanding of the Quran. A word-by-word English translation can help non-Arabic speakers, and this image is extracted from Arabic and English morphosyntactically annotated and aligned text. Wordle calculates word frequencies in a text, resizes the words according to frequency, then fits the resized word-images like a jigsaw puzzle. The result highlights the key words in the text. Arabic is written right-to-left. Wordle cannot mix right-to-left and left-to-right scripts in each "jigsaw piece", so the result is an image which represents the challenge of understanding the Quran. 1 http://www.wordle.net
